The Development

The School

Duns primary school first opened its doors in 1880 following the establishment of the School Board system in Scotland. Prior to this children were educated in the local church hall. The school board organised the purchase of a plot of land to the west of the town centre and employed renowned Galashiels architects Adam Herbertson & Sons to oversee the construction.

 

The building was extended in the mid-20th century to accommodate the increasing school roll however these extensions have now been removed and the building is now restored to its original Victorian footprint.

 

The Location

The historic market town of Duns provides access to a range of amenities including the modern state-of-the-art Berwickshire High School, a newly refurbished primary school, and a highly rated medical centre.

There is a selection of local shops and restaurants, and a range of leisure facilities including a golf course, swimming pool, rugby, football and bowling clubs, gym, and children’s play centre.

Edinburgh is 45 miles away with access bus or by rail via the main East Coast rail line from Reston (8 miles) or Berwick upon Tweed (15 miles).
